Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts, #4)

When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity: Chess’s boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the sparks between him and Chess.

Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. Someone seems to be taking a crash course in summoning the dead—and if Chess doesn’t watch her back, she may soon be joining their ranks.

As Chess is drawn into a shadowy world of twisted secrets and dark violence, it soon becomes clear that she’s not going to emerge from its depths without making the ultimate sacrifice.

The Good: Chess and Terrible are back! The action is top notch and it is a great book to read.

The Bad: Chess’s loves to mess up and we get plenty of that in Sacrificial Magic.

The Romance: Terrible 4EVER! That’s all I’m gonna say LOL.

The Good: I love where Devon seems to be taking this series! When i started reading it, I never thought that the world Devon Monk created would become so rich and intricate. The stories just keep getting better and better. amazing characters and enthralling adventures galore.

The Bad: I feel that the books in the Allie Beckstrom series tend to happen in such a short span of time, I wish the book had moved further ahead in time. Other than that i don’t really have any complaints.

The Romance: I LOVE Zavyon and Allie! I do wish we got more romance time, but with everything else going on, it is totally understandable and it didn't take away from enjoying the book at all. We still got some great heart melting goodness =D.

Early Review: Dark Frost {Mythos Academy #3} by Jennifer Estep

0 Lovely Comments!
*I'm having issues with the comment box on blogger, so I am sorry for not responding in the comments. I do read and appreciate ALL of them!

Dark Frost (Mythos Academy, #3)

*Expected Publication of Dark Frost: May 29th!

I’ve seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I’m supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I’m just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me—again.

Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects—and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I’m also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me?

It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can’t use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me—and I’m in for the fight of my life.

*Minor Overall Series SPOILERS

For a while now I have been having issues with Y.A. novels. I can’t seem to just open myself up and try new Y.A. books or series, even of the Paranormal nature. However, there are a few series that I simply love and will keep on reading as the authors deliver awesome books. The Mythos Academy is definitely one of these series. Jennifer Estep has created such a rich, scary and captivating world and characters that you can’t help but feel and root for them time and time again. I love the heroine, Gwen, specially how different she is from other Y.A. heroines. She is strong, brave, smart and not perfect in the least. It is her flaws and shortcomings that make her such a lovable and believable heroine. Dark Frost starts off not long after the end of Kiss of Frost and the we get punched in the gut with the action right off. I absolutely loved how Jennifer Estep is not afraid to bring out the pain and mayhem, specially in a world where the Pantheon, the God of Chaos, Reapers and a whole cast of myths are real. We get tons of action throughout Dark Frost and a lot of surprises as well. I am so happy that Estep has forgone the Love Triangle in this series, Gwen already has enough obstacles in her life and heart, having to choose between two boys would have just been contrived in my point of view.

I can complain about anything in Dark Frost, it would be that at times there was some background information in weird places. However, that did not in any way, shape or form take anything away from me enjoying the book. I really don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just say that Dark Frost is fantastic! A great installment in a very exciting series and full of surprises. After the sneak peak of Crimson Frost in the end, I am even more excited for the next novel in the Mythos Academy series.

Quickie Series-Catch-Up Reviews: Lover Unleashed {BDB #9} by J.R. Ward & Hunt The Moon {CP #5} by Karen Chance

9 Lovely Comments!

Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9)

Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, warrior cloth as her brother: A fighter by nature, and a maverick when it comes to the traditional role of Chosen females, there is no place for her on the Far Side… and no role for her on the front lines of the war, either.
When she suffers a paralyzing injury, human surgeon Dr. Manuel Manello is called in to treat her as only he can- and he soon gets sucked into her dangerous, secret world. Although he never before believed in things that go bump in the night- like vampires- he finds himself more than willing to be seduced by the powerful female who marks both his body and his soul.
As the two find so much more than an erotic connection, the human and vampire worlds collide … just as a centuries old score catches up with Payne and puts both her love and her life in deadly jeopardy.

The Good: Anytime I get to see the BDB boys and girls is a good time. I was very happy to see Payne and Manny get their HEA and Specially to see Vishous get some closure. A lot of emotions in the air, my heart broke, I cried and enjoyed every minute!

The Bad: It felt more like V’s story than Payne and Manny`s and I felt like things got wrapped up too nicely for Payne and Manny. It felt too easy =/

The Smex: Payne and Manny were hot, but I have seen much hotter in this series =/

Cassandra Palmer recently defeated a god, which you'd think would buy a girl a little time off. But it doesn't work that way when your job description is Pythia-the world's chief clairvoyant. Cassie is busier than ever, trying to learn about her power, preparing for her upcoming coronation, and figuring out her relationship with the enigmatic sexy master vampire, Mircea.

Accused: The Fourth Ganzfield Novel

*contains spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books in the series and NO Spoilers for Accused!

The Ganzfield series is one that has caught me off guard and made an absolute fan! After Minder and Adversary blew me away and Legacy left me happy but worried about the future of the series, I have to say that with Accused, Kate Kaynak has made sure fans will be looking forward to each new installment with gusto.

Accused has it all, Action, Romance as well as a lot of character and plot development. I was so scared of the path the series was taking after the “big villain” was killed off in Legacy, but I should not have worried, Kate has a plan and even the cliff hanger ending of Accused left me with my heart broken, I have to say that I can’t to see where she is planning to take this series.

The Ganzfield series is an awesome fast-paced Paranormal Y.A. series full of romance, great characters and awesome world building. If you enjoy P.Y.A. this is definitely a series you should check out and if you are already a fan, you CANNOT miss Accused!

Big Bad Beast

Shelly Laurenston does it again and insures that her Pride series includes some of my favorite Paranormal Romance charcaters EVER! No one does it like she does. She has the talent of creating such vivid and compelling characters and all the while making me laugh my a** off, every single time!

I have to admit I was a bit worried about Big Bad Beast. I mean, I love Rick and couldn’t wait for him and Dee-Ann to get their HEA, but Dee-Ann is a difficult character to love. However, after reading Big Bad Beast, I am ashamed of not trusting Shelly, because the woman can do NO wrong!

We have been seeing Dee-Ann and Rick in the background for a couple books and we knew they were meant to be together, we just didn’t know how much so. Shelly shows it to us right in the Prologue of the novel in which I have to say, is probably my favorite Prologue EVER!

As for the characters, Rick was amazing and I did not expect anything else. I loved getting into his head in Big Bad Beast and not only is he a great man, he is also super adorable.

"I'm not a whore, Dee-Ann. You can't just come here to use and abuse me before going on your merry way. Unless, of course, you're naked."

What can I say about Dee-Ann? I never really warmed up to her through the novels and even though Big Bad Beast got me at least liking her a bit and seeing that she and Rick are great together, she is still not my favorite female character in this series.

That said, however, she does bring a certain dry humor to the series that I do appreciate from time to time and having Blaine getting on her nerves ALL THE TIME is absolutely priceless.

"Heifer.”
“Rich man’s whore!”
“At least mine can cook the food he eats. And replaces it, too.”
“Now see, Dee-Ann Smith. That was just mean!"

Al in all, Big Bad Beast was an awesome addition to this incredible series and I can’t wait for the next one! If you have yet to read this series, I don’t know what you’re waiting for. Hot Smex and Hilarious characters, Could I ask for more? Is it 2012 yet?
