Hello Book Lovers!

I’m Allison Brennan, one of the authors in ENTANGLED, a paranormal/urban fantasy anthology published by Authors4TheCure. My novella, “Ghostly Justice” is part of the Seven Deadly Sins series. I hope it stands alone for new readers, but series readers will enjoy revisiting Moira, Rafe and Detective Grant Nelson as they face a group of wannabe vampires practicing virgin sacrifices to a blood demon, so that they themselves will gain immortality. Based (very) loosely on a vampiric legend related to the blood demon Baphomet, this is my take on vampires.

I am thrilled to have been included in this project because all the money goes to breast cancer research. The editors, Edie Ramer and Misty Evans, found a wonderful charity, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and I’m so excited to participate in something that gives back. Breast cancer research benefits everyone, men and women, young and old, because the focus truly is CANCER research. If we eradicate breast cancer, it’s a much smaller step toward eradicating cancer, period. We all know someone who has suffered through this disease. When my daughter’s English teacher (and the mother of one of her closest friends) was diagnosed four years ago, she took a year off from teaching to fight. Now, she is cancer free and back teaching. Since, my daughter and her friends participate in the Relay for Life every year, both bonding as teenagers and doing something positive for others.

I’ve never had the opportunity to meet Lori Brighton in person—as is often the case for writers who live far apart, but chat often online. But just because we’ve never met face-to-face doesn’t mean anything in the modern world. We all have friendships that started online. One of my closest friendships began a year before a face-to-face meet—neither of us were published, though both contracted, and when we met it was love at first sight (in a platonic, sisterhood kind of way! LOL.)

I think if Lori and I met, that might be the same. Because Lori has a fantastic backstory all her own that makes her an extremely interesting character (I mean woman!)

First, when I read her paranormal historical “A Night of Forever” in our anthology ENTANGLED, I was whisked away to another time and place and hardly realized I read so quickly until I reached the end. Since I’m not a historical reader, Lori’s talent for taking me on such a journey is rare. Great job! So talent is always a plus in my book. (No pun intended!)

A degree in anthropology, a job in a museum, raising a family (plus pets!), and writing across three genres—Lori is pretty amazing.

One thing I love about the writing world, and romance writers in particular, is that they give back. Lori’s contribution to our anthology ENTANGLED shows her heart is in the right place, that even though she’s busy, she’s not so busy to take time to stand up for something she feels passionate about.

You can feel her passion in her work—and that’s something that just can’t be taught.

Original Sin (Seven Deadly Sins)

One of my favorite movies when I was younger was Se7en with Brad Pitt, so when I read the blurb and the idea for this new series, I was super excited and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it =)

I glad to say that I wasn’t disappointed. The whole demon possession is not really my favorite storyline in UF or PNR novels, but when it’s well done, it can be quite compelling.

I had read mixed reviews on Original Sin and I am happy I stuck with it, despite the slow start. I actually really enjoyed the book and the set up for more installments in this new series.

Moira is a witch and in the world Allison Brennan created, that is a bad thing. Witches are known for getting too carried away with their own power and let it corrupt them. Moira learned that the hard way when she lost the man she loved to a demon possession, by using too much of her own power.

Ever since she was young Moira has been running from her mother, a very powerful witch who has nefarious plans for Moira and won’t rest until she has control over her daughter.

Moira joined a secret order in the church that battles demons and witches, believing she could leave her past behind, but she also believed she could use her witch powers for good and that was got her to lose someone she loved.

Years later Moira has been hunting her mother relentlessly for 7 years, when she finds her handiwork in a small city and in an attempt to capture the demons that represent the 7 deadly sins, something goes wrong and they are released into the world.

Now Moira has to join forces with a friend of her old lover, who hates her and Rafe, a mysterious man who will awaken in Moira something she thought was forever dead.

After a slow start, Original sin is a great fast-paced novel that had me going through it in one sitting. I could not put it down for a second.

The plot is very interesting and I loved how Brennan showed the effects of the Deadly Sins demons on the small town population, it was very well done and it gave the book a nice rhythm.

All in all, Original sin is definitely a great read for Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance fans alike. There is romance and a steamy one at that, but the plot is definitely at the forefront of the novel. If you love a great UF book, this will be a treat for you! I can’t wait for the next installments!
