Lala's Book Corner: Battle of The Network Zombies (Amanda Feral #3) by Mark Henry

6 Lovely Comments!

"In Seattle's undead circles, Amanda Feral is one of the beautiful zombies. Of course, when you're socializing with werewolves, devils, and rampaging yetis, there's not that much competition. Still, Amanda has a stylish rep to maintain, which is getting tricky now that her tanking ad agency is obliterating her finances. The fastest way to make some cash: appear on a new reality show, American Minions, hosted by lecherous wood nymph Johnny Birch. Classy? Maybe not, but a girl's gotta eat. With zombie gal pal Wendy posing as her bitchy agent, Amanda settles in to 'Minions Mansion', crowded with 24-7 video cameras and undead fame whores. When Johnny is found incinerated in a locked room, Amanda decides to channel her inner Miss Marple (minus the ugly cardigans) and find out who's responsible. Was it Hairy Sue, the white trash stripper yeti? Tanesha, the glamorous trannie werewolf? Angie, the Filipino vampire with a detachable head? Unveiling the culprit in a heart-stopping finale won't just save the show from cancellation, it might just keep Amanda alive - or as close as a ghoul can get..."

***This is the third book in the Amanda Feral Series. Check out my review of book 1, Happy Hour of The Damned, HERE and my review of book 2, Road Trip of The Living Dead, HERE!

Amanda is back, bitchier than ever in Battle of The Network Zombies and I LOVED it! It's sad to think of this series ending, it so is... This book was hilarious!

Amanda is drowning in debt, she owes a lot of money to the Reapers, the supernatural version of Doctors, and the little bitches are trying to collect their money. What is a girl to do? Become a judge on a new Supernatural Reality Show, of course.

The craziness start even before we get to the show and it just gets more insane as we go along. All our beloved secondary characters are back, Wendy, Gil, Mr Kim, Honey, Scott, Ethel and much more. It was so great seeing all my favorite characters being creepier than ever hehe.

Amanda is extremely self centered and that takes a little getting used to, but in this book we got to see her mellow a little bit and I really enjoyed that. I Love Mark's writing, he has such a way with words and he is so creative, that makes it easy to get involved in that bizarre world he has created.

I have to say, it was really hard to keep this review spoiler free, but I did it! LOL

Lala's Book Corner: Road Trip of The Living Dead (Amanda Feral #2) by Mark Henry

14 Lovely Comments!

"Celebrity party girl Amanda Feral is back from the dead, and hungrier than ever for a good time. With her zombie gal pal Wendy and vampy gay sidekick Gil, this stone cold fox is dressed to kill, on the prowl, and ready to take a big juicy bite out of Seattle's supernatural nightlife.

But what's a zombie chick to do when her 'Mommie Dearest' gets sick? If you're Amanda Feral, you can either ignore the wicked old witch - or bury the past by visiting Ethel before she kicks it. Amanda's not thrilled about the idea of crossing three states just to be criticized. But Wendy, who's always looking for fresh meat, is up for the adventure. And Gil, who just launched his 'luxury' resurrection business, needs to disappear because a pissed-off client is out for his blood. First, they pack their stiletto pumps and plasma into a skeevy rattrap on wheels that used to be a Winnebago. Then, with a little help from a Korean-ghost hood ornament, a masochist named Fishhook, and a slew of 'moderately accurate' psychics, they hit the highway - their way.

Of course, they'll have to navigate past some neo-Nazi skinheads, a horny dust devil, a hunky werewolf cop (who could pass for an underwear model) and an unsightly horde of supermarket shoppers. But for this glamorous gang of ghouls this trip is about to take a dangerous detour that could give road kill a brand new meaning."

Happy Release Day to Mark Henry! Book 3 in the Amanda Series, Battle of The Network Zombies, is coming out today!

My review will be up later this week!

***This is the second book in the Amanda Feral Series. Check out my review of book 1, Happy Hour of The Damned, HERE.

Road Trip starts off not too long after the events in Happy Hour and right off the bad things get started. Gil, the vampire gay best friend (who doesn't have one) has opened a new business where he turns people into vamps with class, for a price. We find Amanda, Gil and Wendy in a graveyard waiting for Gil's client to "wake up" and give him the 5 starts treatment. Things go wrong and the guy, a billionaire that hold grudges, goes after Gil.

In the mean time, Amanda finds out her dying mother is closer to death. Gil need no escape the city, Amanda need closure (under coercion), so they all get on the road to the Hospice Amanda's mom lives. They get in so many crazy and hilarious situations. Running into skinheads, killers, hobos with weird dietary plans and a family that seems to be stuck in the 50's and too perfect to be true.

If you enjoyed Happy Hour, you need to get Road Trip. The footnotes still annoyed me a bit, but they were funny a lot of the times.

One of the things I love about this series, is that Mark writes it like it is Amanda writing her own memoir and it works so well.

"For all I knew this was
going to be just another in a string of fabulous cock-ups that
seemed to be scripted for us by some unknown writer somewhere,
some overweight forty-year old loafing in cargo shorts
and flip-flops."

This book is hilarious, gross, fun and disturbing... You don't want to miss it! Amanda and her gang are crazier then ever and we even get a few more secondary characters. I just wish they got her mom's place earlier, Amanda's mom will make the worst mom out there look like the virgin Mary LOL.

Lala's Book Corner: Happy Hour of The Damned by Mark Henry (Amanda Feral #1)

10 Lovely Comments!

"Seattle. One minute you're drinking a vanilla breve, the next, some creepy old dude is breathing on you, turning you into a zombie. And that's just for starters. Now, the recently deceased Amanda Feral is trying to make her way through Seattle's undead scene with style (mortuary-grade makeup, six-inch stilettos, Balenciaga handbag on sale) while satisfying her craving for human flesh (Don't judge. And no, not like chicken.) and decent vodkatinis.

Making her way through a dangerous world of cloud-doped bloodsuckers, reapers, horny and horned devils, werewolves, celebrities, and PR-obsessed shapeshifters--not to mention an extremely hot bartender named Ricardo--isn't easy. And the minute one of Amanda's undead friends disappears after texting the word, "help" (The undead--so dramatic!) she knows the afterlife is about to get really ugly.
Something sinister is at hand. Someone or something is hellbent on turning Seattle's undead underworld into a place of true terror. And this time, Amanda may meet a fate a lot worse than death..."

I had been meaning to get this book for a while when Mark Henry was kind enough to offer it to me. I dug right into it and was hit in the face disturbing, snarky, fun, interesting and many times disgusting world. To be quite honest it took me a while to get used to the visual Mark throws at us and to learn to deal with such an Anti-Heroine.

I stuck it out and I am definitely glad that I did. "Happy Hour..." is hilarious and not for the faint-hearted. Amanda is a zombie and we get to join her in some very disturbing situations, as when she needs to feed. How many heroines can you say you have read about, that eat people? LOL Not really something you think you'd laugh about, but Henry just have a way of making it so funny, you end up not caring.

It took me a while to actually like Amanda, I mean, she is such a Bitch! However, I did end up rooting for her and her friends. Amanda's world is freaky and fun and impossible not to get involved in. It's a mix of Night of the living dead with Sex and The City and Mark Henry does it so well. The mystery plot was quite interesting and I definitely did not see it coming, though I have to say I kinda suspected one of the bad guys hehe, I think it was all about the paranoid in me. You can only read so many UF books and not start suspecting the cat of being a shifter! LOL

One thing that actually bothered me somewhat were the footnotes. They were hilarious at times, but it got annoying having to check the bottom of the page so much, specially when you're reading on your laptop. That said, that little hurdle did not take much from the experience and all in all it was definitely pleasant.

If you love the paranormal and can handle people eating and a lot of snark, this is The Book for you!!!

Smut Level: Freaky! LOL

Battle of The Network Zombies (Amanda Feral #3) is coming out on February 23rd and Mark has a campaign going on to SAVE AMANDA FERAL! Apparently this 3rd book is the last chance for the series, so you guys need to go out and get the book, otherwise there will be no more Amanda Feral.
